KPYPJ Origins (1996–1997)
Kumpulan Pendidikan YPJ (KPYPJ) is the parent company overseeing all education entities under Yayasan Pelajaran Johor.
Establishment of Ilham Ikhlas → KPYPJ
On 3 March 1996, Yayasan Pelajaran Johor (YPJ) established Ilham Ikhlas Sdn. Bhd. under the Akta Institusi Pendidikan Tinggi Swasta 1996 (Akta 555). In 1997, it was renamed Kumpulan Pendidikan YPJ (KPYPJ) to provide second-chance education pathways for school leavers.
KPYPJ then established four academic colleges (now KUYPJ) and eight Kolej Komuniti YPJ (now under KKJ) across Johor. Most colleges operated in Johor State Government buildings and Pusat Latihan Kemahiran (PLK) under Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat.
KUYPJ — Academic Pillar (1997–2025)
Kolej Universiti Yayasan Pelajaran Johor (KUYPJ) is the main academic institution under KPYPJ, upgraded on 7 October 2025.

- Kolej Islam Johor (KIJ) — Kg. Aman, Larkin Jaya, JB
- Institut Teknologi Perindustrian YPJ (ITPYPJ) — Bukit Senyum, JB
- Institut Hospitaliti YPJ (IHYPJ) — Taman Tampoi Utama, JB
- Kolej Teknologi Binaan YPJ (KTBYPJ) — Kg. Ungku Mohsin, JB (merged into ITPYPJ in 2006)

Kolej Kemahiran Johor — TVET Pillar (1997)
Kolej Kemahiran Johor is the technical and vocational training entity under KPYPJ.
Kolej Kemahiran Johor History & Development
Kolej Kemahiran Johor began in 1997 when the Pusat Latihan Kemahiran (PLK) under Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM) was taken over by KPYPJ. Initially known as Kolej Komuniti Pendidikan YPJ, it had eight branches across Johor — Muar, Segamat, Johor Bahru, Mersing, Pontian, Batu Pahat, Kota Tinggi and Kluang.
Today, Kolej Komuniti YPJ has become Kolej Kemahiran Johor. Kolej Kemahiran Johor offers Sijil and Diploma Kemahiran programs with a 70% practical / 30% theory structure based on NOSS and accredited by Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran (JPK).
KPMS — Support Pillar (2006)
KPYPJ Management Services Sdn. Bhd. (KPMS) is the strategic business entity supporting KPYPJ education operations.
History & Current Operations
KPMS was established in 2006 to generate additional revenue, optimize internal expertise and assets, and sustain KPYPJ education operations. As the education landscape evolved, KPMS underwent restructuring in the 2010s.
Current KPMS operations:
- Tadika & Taska Hikmah YPJ — Established late 1998, KPM curriculum with Islamic values.
- Homestay / Penginapan KPMS — Supporting education, training and community activities.

Ilham Ikhlas Sdn. Bhd. established
On 3 March 1996, Yayasan Pelajaran Johor (YPJ) established Ilham Ikhlas Sdn. Bhd. to deliver academic and skills programs at colleges administered under the Akta Institusi Pendidikan Tinggi Swasta 1996 (Akta 555).
KPYPJ rebranding and early college network
Ilham Ikhlas was renamed Kumpulan Pendidikan YPJ (KPYPJ) to provide second-chance education pathways. KPYPJ established four main colleges (KIJ, ITPYPJ, IHYPJ, KTBYPJ) and eight Kolej Komuniti YPJ across Johor.
PLK JKM takeover and the start of KKJ
Kolej Kemahiran Johor (KKJ) was formerly known as Kolej Komuniti Pendidikan YPJ. It began in 1997 when the Pusat Latihan Kemahiran (PLK) under Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM) was taken over by KPYPJ.
- Rationale: support economic development, reduce unemployment, and supply skilled workers aligned to industry needs.
- Training model: Sijil and Diploma Kemahiran, 70% practical / 30% theory, NOSS-based curriculum.
- Programs are accredited by Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran (JPK) and industry bodies.
Tadika & Taska Hikmah YPJ established
Established in late 1998 as early childhood education based on the Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia curriculum with Islamic values. It is now part of KPMS current operations.
KKJ grew as a leading TVET institution in Johor
KKJ operated in districts such as Batu Pahat, Kluang and Muar. Over two decades, it produced more than 20,000 skilled graduates who meet industry needs locally and abroad.
KPMS established and KTBYPJ merged
KPYPJ Management Services Sdn. Bhd. (KPMS) was formed as a strategic business entity to generate additional group revenue, optimize internal expertise and assets, and sustain KPYPJ education operations. In the same year, KTBYPJ was merged under ITPYPJ.
Groundbreaking of KYPJ main campus
The KYPJ main campus groundbreaking took place on 11 December 2010. The 100-acre, RM120 million campus took five years to complete.
Rebranding into a school-based structure
College names were reorganized into Sekolah Pengurusan dan Sains Sosial (SPSS) for KIJ, Sekolah Kejuruteraan dan Sains Kreatif (SKSK) for ITP YPJ, and Sekolah Hospitaliti dan Pelancongan (SHP) for IHYPJ.
KPMS business focus restructuring
In response to changes in education and operational needs, KPMS restructured its business focus. Some earlier services remain as legacy history and are no longer offered as active operations.
KYPJ main campus handover and officiation
On 1 November 2015, the KYPJ main campus was handed over to KPYPJ management. The campus was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi on 18 October 2016.
KYPJ upgraded to KUYPJ
On 7 October 2025, the institution was officially upgraded to Kolej Universiti Yayasan Pelajaran Johor (KUYPJ), expanding higher education opportunities and human capital development.
KPMS current operational focus
KPMS currently focuses on two main services:
- Tadika & Taska Hikmah YPJ (established in late 1998, Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia curriculum with Islamic values).
- Homestay / Penginapan KPMS supporting education, training, community activities and educational tourism.
Other services are part of earlier business history and are no longer offered as current operations.
